Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage, Lourdes 2007
October 18th, 2007 by Fr. Pius, OP

For 100 years now, the Dominican friars in France have organized an annual Rosary Pilgrimage. The pilgrimage is held in Lourdes, the place of Our Lady’s appearance to St. Bernadette Soubirous, in the first week of October. This year, between 30,000 to 40,000 people attended this event, including more than 2,000 teenagers who came with Dominican or other Catholic schools in order to serve the sick.
The Dominican Rosary Pilgrimage is the major pilgrimage of the year in Lourdes, at which the largest number of the ill and suffering come to ask the Virgin Mary for her intercession. Dominicans from both French Provinces (Toulouse and France) have been charged with organizing the pilgrimage. Most of the brothers in formation (novices and student brothers) are involved in the organization, and help in a variety of ways: liturgy, spiritual direction of groups, and generally assisting the great numbers of pilgrims.
This year, the Pilgrimage lasted from October 3rd to the 6th. The daily program for the pilgrimage included: Morning Prayer with the Dominican Friars and Sisters; Solemn Mass preached every day by Rev. Guy Touton, OP (Province of Toulouse); Spiritual Conferences; the Way of the Cross and Eucharistic procession; Evening Prayer and Rosary; and a nightly candle-lit procession.
We are grateful to the brothers of the Province of Toulouse for sharing the news about this extraordinary event with us and to Mr. Michel Perdrix (father of Rev. Sébastien Perdrix, OP) for allowing us to use his pictures. For a slideshow of even more pictures from this year’s pilgrimage, click here.
