Saint Albert the Great
VATICAN CITY, NOV. 15, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI pointed out the example of St. Albert the Great as a builder of peace.

Recalling that on Nov. 15 the Church celebrates the saint’s liturgical feast, the Pope referred to the Dominican religious and bishop of Regensburg, “who made ceaseless efforts to establish peace among the peoples of his time.” Albert was born circa 1200 and died in 1280.

“May his example stimulate you, dear young people, to work for justice and build reconciliation,” the Holy Father affirmed at the end of his general audience in St. Peter’s Square.

Addressing the sick who were present, Benedict XVI implored that St. Albert, a Doctor of the Church, of German origin, be “an encouragement to confide in the Lord, who never abandons us in moments of trial.”

Finally, turning to newlyweds, some of whom were dressed in their wedding clothes, the Pope expressed the hope that St. Albert would be “a stimulation to find in the Gospel the joy to welcome and serve life, the priceless gift of God.”
