Procession for Candlemas at House of Studies

Each year on February 2, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, (traditionally known as Candlemas and before the the 2nd Vatican Council, the Purification of Our Lady and the end of the Christmas Season), the prior at the Dominican House of Studies blesses all the candles to be used throughout the coming year after which the community processes to the house chapel chanting “Lumen ad revelationis gentium,” the prophetic words Simeon spoke to Mary and Joseph as they brought the infant Jesus to the Temple in accord with the Law of Moses.
